Blind rivet material selection?
The selection of stainless steel materials is mainly carried out from the following five aspects.
1. Requirements for mechanical properties, especially the strength of rivet materials;
2. The requirements of the working conditions and environmental conditions on the research on the anti-corrosion technical performance of the material;
3. The working temperature requires the heat resistance (high temperature strength, oxidation resistance) of the material;
4. The requirements of the production process on the processing performance of the material;
5. Other management aspects, such as weight, price, and purchasing factors, must be considered.
Taking these five aspects into consideration, the grades, varieties, specifications and material standards of rivets are finally determined.
The commonly used grades are 302, 303, 304, and 305, which are the four grades of the so-called 18-8 type Auschwitz stainless steel. Corrosion resistance and mechanical properties are similar. The starting point is the rivet production process, which in turn depends on the size and shape of the rivet, as well as the output.
Type 302 screws and self-tapping rivets are machined.
To improve the machinability of Type 303, a small amount of sulfur is added to Type 303 stainless steel for machining rivets with bar stock.
Type 304 is suitable for companies that use hot heading process for processing and rivets, such as a long-use rivet, large-diameter rivets, which may be beyond the scope of cold heading process.
Type 305 rivets are suitable for cold heading rivets such as cold formed rivets and hex rivets.
Types 309 and 310 have higher chromium and nickel content than Type 18-8 stainless steels and are suitable for rivets that work at high temperatures.
Types 316 and 317, both of which contain different alloy design elements Mo, have higher high-temperature working strength and corrosion-resistant material properties than Type 18-8 stainless steel.
Type 321 and Type 347 contain stable alloying element Ti, and Type 347 contains Nb. Blind rivets improve the intergranular corrosion resistance of the material.
